Community Outreach and Support Team wins the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association’s Exceptional Police Performance by a Unit/Team/Collaboration Award.

The University of Maryland, Baltimore Police Department (UMBPD) Community Outreach and Support Team (COAST) has won the 2020 Maryland Chiefs of Police Association’s Exceptional Police Performance by a Unit/Team/Collaboration Award.

The award is given to a team that “made an outstanding contribution to community safety.” The award will be presented at the Maryland Chiefs of Police Association’s annual Professional Development Seminar in Ocean City, Md., on Oct. 18, 2021.

“We work hard to support our community and do things the right way,” UMBPD Interim Chief Thomas Leone said. “Awards are great, but the relationships we’re building with our students, employees, and neighbors are the real prize. I’m committed to continuing to grow and improve. We’re not done yet.”

This is the second honor earned in the past month by UMBPD, which also won the prestigious 2021 International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP)/Walmart Leadership in Community Policing Award in late June.
