Huakun Xu and his team at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry have developed a revolutionary tooth-filling material that kills cavity-causing bacteria and strengthens teeth. Each year, 200 million tooth restorations are performed in the U.S., at a cost of $40 billion, and more than half of these procedures involve replacing old restorations that have failed. Dr. Xu’s antibacterial fillings could substantially reduce failure rates and time spent in the dental chair, plus lower out of pocket costs.Mike RuddockCollaboration, Education, People, Research, Technology, UMB NewsOctober 23, 20140 comments
