Susan G. Dorsey

Professor co-authors two published papers on the results of pain research.

Susan G. Dorsey, PhD ’01, MS ’98, RN, FAAN, professor, co-authored a research paper, “Secondary analysis: heat and self-report pain sensitivity associate with biological sex and racialized sociocultural group but may not be mediated by anxiety or pain catastrophizing,” which was accepted for publication in the journal Pain Reports. Hee Jun Kim, PhD ’16, is a co-author. The research focuses on the measurement of pain in minority populations.

In addition, Dorsey is the co-author of another research paper, published Oct. 23 in the journal PLOS Genetics, “Genome wide association joint analysis reveals 99 risk loci for pain susceptibility and pleiotropic relationships with psychiatric, metabolic, and immunological traits.” Co-authors include Cynthia L. Renn, PhD, MS ’97, RN, FAAN, professor, chair, Department of Pain and Translational Symptom Science, and co-director, UMB Center to Advance Chronic Pain Research; and Kathryn Ward, BSN ’21. The paper highlights the importance of identifying new genetic risk factors for pain and related traits.
