Alexis Guethler, IDEA Team, Earns PhD from Towson
Alexis Guethler, instructional designer serving the School of Social Work with the IDEA Team, graduated with a Doctor of Philosophy degree from Towson University's newly redesignated Instructional Technology (PhD) program.
Alexis was honored to be the graduate speaker at the Dec. 20 Winter Commencement for the Colleges of Education and Liberal Arts. Her speech describes her journey from military spouse and stay-at-home mom to instructional designer specializing in Online Education pedagogies and is available on YouTube. Alexis' dissertation was titled "Reflective Self-Regulated Learning Interventions in Online Environments: A Mixed Methods Study of the Student Experience."
Alexis also completed a certificate program, Life and Engagement Coaching, from Anne Arundel Community College last fall with the goal of better supporting faculty, staff, and other members of the UMB community.
Alexis' research interests center on pedagogies for adult learners, self-regulated learning, accessibility, AI for education, and humanizing the online learning experience for both faculty and students. While in a staff role, Alexis continues to pursue scholarship opportunities and is interested in participating in Scholarship of Teaching and Learning projects.
