Karen Morales, BS, associate director of engagement for the PATIENTS Program, was recognized with an award for Outstanding Achievement in Academic Community Engagement by a Staff Member by the Interprofessional Program on Academic Community Engagement (IPACE), housed in UMSON's Department of Family and Community Health.

On Thursday, March 28, IPACE held its second annual symposium, Best Practices in Community Engagement: A Symposium on Community-Based Scholarship, Practice, Education, and Service. The symposium also highlighted various organizations and individuals and their efforts in community engagement.

As the associate director of engagement for the PATIENTS Program, Morales guides the engagement team in strengthening existing partnerships through establishing authentic collaborations and developing new connections across the West Baltimore community. It is through the hard work of Morales and her engagement team that the PATIENTS Program elevates the lived experience of community members in research.
