Assistant professor presents 'Humor in Addiction Recovery' at the mental health and addiction treatment conference.


Benjamin Canha, PhD, RN, assistant professor, will be presenting "Humor in Addiction Recovery" at the 37th Annual Tuerk Conference on Mental Health and Addiction Treatment: Hope and New Opportunities in 2025 at the Baltimore Convention Center on April 29.

Canha will emphasize the important contribution of humor and having fun in successful recovery from addictive disorders. He will review his qualitative research findings, looking at the culture of humor in 12-step recovery programs and will also present his two most recent books, "Recovery Cartoons: the 12 Steps" and "Recovery Cartoons: Addiction Research." This national conference is co-sponsored by the University of Maryland School of Medicine.
