Associate professor Dr. Darren L Whitfield, doctoral candidate Tural Mammadli, and colleagues published a new article in the Journal of HIV/AIDS and Social Services examining how intersectional microaggressions influence HIV pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) adherence among Black sexual minority men.
The study found that Black sexual minority men experience high rates of daily microaggressions however it does not lead to elevated rates of psychological distress nor reduced PrEP adherence. These findings highlight the importance of considering the importance of coping strategies, strengths, and resilience by Black sexual minority men in engaging in PrEP use and adherence.
