Under the leadership of Dr. Julie Kafka at the University of Colorado Anschutz Medical Campus, Dr. Laurie Graham and colleagues recently published an article titled "Preventing Intimate Partner Murder-Suicide: A Case Control Study of Suicidal Males in Abusive Relationships" in the American Journal of Preventive Medicine. This case-control study used 2019-2020 National Violent Death Reporting System data to identify risk indicators for intimate partner murder-suicide committed by suicidal men and boys who had a history of perpetrating intimate partner violence. Results from 478 matched case/control pairs indicated that decedent military history and firearm use increased the odds of perpetrating intimate partner murder-suicide. Domestic violence protective order involvement, disclosed suicidal intent, prior suicide attempts, and some additional indicators were associated with decreased odds.
