UMANS Hosts USG Blood Drive

UMANS students collaborate with the American Red Cross.

The University of Maryland Association of Nursing Students (UMANS) collaborated with the American Red Cross to host a blood drive at the Universities of Shady Grove campus on March 31. Eight nursing students volunteered to run the registration table and the recovery area. This collaboration couldn't be more timely as there is currently an emergency blood shortage in the United States. In all, 52 pints were donated, surpassing the goal of 45 pints. The blood drive was open to members of the community. It is a great way for nursing students to demonstrate their professionalism and represent UMSON, said Marissa Astiz-Martinez, MS '13, RN, CNE, clinical instructor and UMANS faculty advisor.
