University of Maryland Association of Nursing Students members attend the annual National Student Nurse Association Convention in Seattle.

University of Maryland Association of Nursing Students (UMANS) members attended the annual National Student Nurse Association (NSNA) Convention, April 9 - 13 in Seattle. UMANS is the NSNA chapter for the University of Maryland School of Nursing at the Universities at Shady Grove.

Ten student representatives from UMANS attended the four-day convention and brought back a plethora of information and memories. The plenary session focused on the role of nurses in creating innovative practice changes. One student reflected on this session: “To foster meaningful conversations around improvement and innovation, it’s essential to create a safe and welcoming work environment where individuals feel comfortable expressing the need for change.”

Students also attended a variety of focus sessions during their time. For example, two students attended a session called “Empowering Nurses to Take Climate Action” and learned that it is important for nurses to understand environmental impact on their patients' health and to advocate for environmentally friendly practices. These focus sessions enhanced professional identity and gave students innovative ideas to bring back to the chapter.

Students were grateful for their experience and would like to acknowledge all the UMSON faculty and staff who made this experience possible.
