Dr. Christabel Cheung Receives Teen Cancer America Community AYA Project Grant.

Dr. Christabel Cheung, Associate Professor at the University of Maryland Baltimore, School of Social Work, has been awarded a Community Adolescent and Young Adult (AYA) Project (CAP) Grant from Teen Cancer America as part of a competitive national funding initiative supporting innovative, community-based oncology care.

Through this award, Dr. Cheung will lead the project “Right Care, Right Time: Improving Psychosocial Referrals for Teens and Young Adults with Cancer” in collaboration with Dr. Michael Roth of MD Anderson Cancer Center. The project will convene a national expert panel to develop consensus-based guidance aimed at helping oncology teams across academic and community settings identify AYA patients and integrate timely psychosocial referrals into routine cancer care.

Funded as part of Teen Cancer America’s $100,000 investment in four selected projects nationwide, this initiative seeks to advance equitable, developmentally appropriate cancer care for adolescents and young adults. Findings and best practices from the project will be published in a peer-reviewed journal and disseminated across Teen Cancer America’s national network to inform scalable improvements in AYA oncology care delivery.
