Dean emerita contributes to book from Sigma international honor society of nursing.

Jane Kirschling, PhD, RN, FAAN, dean emerita, contributed a case study to a chapter in the new book "Leading Academic-Practice Partnerships in Nursing and Healthcare: A Paradigm for Change," published by Sigma international honor society of nursing.

Designed for faculty and students across baccalaureate through postdoctoral programs in nursing and other health professions, the book is an essential resource for anyone working to strengthen the connection between education and practice.

Kirschling was interviewed for "Case Study: An Academic-Practice Partnership Highlights the Essentials," about the University of Maryland Nursing Care Coordination Implementation Collaborative (CCIC) between UMSON and the University of Maryland Medical Center.

"The UM CCIC project established a pipeline of well-prepared nurses from 14 associate degree nursing programs linked to the UMSON Bachelor of Science in Nursing program," the chapter reads. "Additionally, the project faculty and clinical nurses developed an online care coordination curriculum and certificate program for nursing students and nurses, enabling them to acquire the knowledge, skills, and competencies necessary to bridge the gap for populations transitioning from the healthcare system to the community. The mutual recognition by the school and health system of a shared need across education and practice aligns with the Essentials (AACN, 2021) and simultaneously impacts the nursing practice and patient outcomes."

Grounded in the American Association for Colleges of Nursing (AACN) Essentials, the book's authors Doreen C. Harper, Maria R. Shirey, Cynthia Selleck, Michele H. Talley, and Connie White Williams deliver a proven, scalable framework that addresses why these partnerships matter, how to build them, and how to sustain them over time.
