UMSSW's Malaysia Harrell Honored at The RISE Tour DMV Edition.
Malaysia Harrell, PhD, LICSW, LCSW-C, BCD, adjunct professor and president of the University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW) Alumni Board, was recognized as an honoree at The RISE Tour DMV Edition on Saturday, October 10, at the Gaylord National Resort & Convention Center in National Harbor, Maryland.
The RISE Tour, themed "Rise. Reign. Lead." and centered on "People. Purpose. Prosperity. A Legacy in Motion," brings together leaders and changemakers for an experience focused on meaningful conversations, strategic connections, wealth building, and creating lasting legacies.
A board-certified psychotherapist, veteran, author, and TEDx speaker, Harrell has dedicated her career to mental health, wellness, leadership, and empowering others — from her service in the U.S. Public Health Service and U.S. Air Force, to her work with the White House and Department of Defense, to founding Blissful Life Consulting, where she helps individuals and communities heal, grow, and thrive.
"For me, this recognition is especially meaningful because the work has always been about more than professional accomplishments," Harrell said. "It is about making a difference in people's lives and helping others find the strength, purpose, and support to thrive."
Harrell, who earned her MSW from the School of Social Work in 2002, is also founder and CEO of Blissful Life Consulting LLC and the Malaysia Harrell Foundation, which advances access to mental health care, wellness education, and healing initiatives for underserved communities.
"Reflecting on this moment, I am reminded that this honor belongs to everyone who has been part of this journey — the clients, colleagues, students, and communities who have trusted me to walk alongside them," Harrell said. "That is the legacy I hope to keep building."
