UMANS Students

University of Maryland Association of Nursing Students members attend the annual National Student Nurse Association Convention in Houston.

Nine University of Maryland Association of Nursing Students (UMANS) board members attended the 74th annual National Student Nurse Association (NSNA) Convention, April 8 - 11 in Houston. UMANS is the NSNA chapter for the University of Maryland School of Nursing at the Universities at Shady Grove.

Each year, the national convention brings together nursing students for professional development, leadership training, and networking. It offers educational sessions, career resources, and opportunities to connect with peers and professionals across the country.

UMANS board members engaged in national-level discussions on nursing practice and leadership and brought back valuable insights to support the growth and success of fellow students. For example, some students attended the focus session "Becoming a Certified Wound, Ostomy, Continence, Nurse (WOCN)," discovering it as a certifiable nursing specialty that many students overlook. From this, UMANS hopes to create opportunities for students to explore lesser-known certifications like WOCN, helping members discover niche passions and plan intentionally for their careers early on.

UMANS would like to thank the Office of Academic and Career Success for providing funding to the UMANS board members who were able to attend the conference.
