Six faculty members receive 2021 UMSON Research Stimulus Program funding.

Research is central to the mission of the University of Maryland, Baltimore and the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON). One of the nationally recognized markers for excellence in nursing research is the National Institutes of Health (NIH) funding profile. The UMSON research stimulus program is intended to foster the success of UMSON researchers in attaining NIH funding for their research, consistent with the UMSON Strategic Plan. To help increase successful grant submissions, the UMSON 2021 Research Stimulus Plan will provide internal funding to promote successful R-level funding from NIH. To assist researchers to convert promising research into successful research grants, we will institute a one-time program of UMSON research development support.

Individuals who submitted one or more NIH grants for R-level funding as an UMSON single PI or MPI where the contact MPI is an UMSON full-time faculty member were eligible for funding. Each faculty member is eligible for one research stimulus award.

Recipients include:

  • Kirsten Corazzini, professor and associate dean for the PhD program
  • Kelly Doran, associate professor
  • Susan Dorsey, PhD '01, MS '98, professor and chair, Department of Pain and Translational Symptom Science
  • Erika Friedmann, professor and associate dean for research
  • Kim Mooney-Doyle, assistant professor
  • Cindy Renn, professor
