UMSON alum and current student appointed full-time manager of General Operating Rooms at UMMC.
Thomas (Tommy) Young, BSN '17, RN, a student in UMSON’s MSN in Health Services and Leadership Management program, has been appointed as the full-time manager of the General Operating Rooms at University of Maryland Medical Center.
In a letter to colleagues, James E. McGowan, DHA, vice president of perioperative and procedural care services, wrote, “Tommy quickly established himself as a rising star within the UMMC community 20 years ago, and has demonstrated continued success in assuming progressive responsibility in a variety of roles. He joined Perioperative Services in 2001 as a surgical technologist in the General Operating Rooms and concurrently completed a nursing program to become a registered nurse. Advancing through roles as a clinical nurse and senior clinical nurse, Tommy then assumed responsibility for the Service Line Coordination for Orthopaedics. He has served as Assistant Nurse Manager and Interim Manager and has been integral to many of the management initiatives underway within Perioperative Services.”
