It is the 10th year of Black Breastfeeding Week. This year’s theme is A New Foundation.

The founders of Black Breastfeeding Week have shared the top five reasons why black breastfeeding week is needed.

  • High black infant mortality rate
  • High rates of diet-related disease
  • Lack of diversity in the lactation field
  • Unique cultural barriers among black women
  • Desert-like conditions in our communities and lack of support
