The University of Baltimore and its nonprofit partners, including Homeless Persons Representation Project, Inc., Pro Bono Resource Center of Maryland, and Maryland Legal Aid, are excited to host the 14th Annual Veterans Legal Assistance Conference and Training at 8 a.m. Friday, June 16, 2023, at the University of Baltimore Merrick School of Business.

Maryland Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Woods will be the keynote speaker.

The conference provides a forum for lawyers, law students, academics, veterans, policymakers, and other veteran service professionals to discuss critical legal issues involving veterans’ benefits and related issues. The focus of this year’s conference is the Sergeant First Class Heath Robinson Honoring our Promise to Address Comprehensive Toxics (PACT) Act. Presenters will be discussing issues related to the PACT Act, including new presumptive conditions, federal litigation around hazardous chemical exposure at Camp LeJeune, and the processing of PACT Act claims.

Additionally, presenters will discuss veterans treatment courts and veteran-specific housing units for incarcerated veterans. A three-hour morning program provides training for new advocates and attorneys interested in becoming VA-accredited claims representatives, and afternoon panels will feature presentations from experts on PACT Act legislation and litigation.

Breakfast and lunch will be provided. The conference is free and open to the public!
