We are excited to announce that applications are now open for the Joint UMNursing Research Grant, a collaborative initiative by the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON) and the University of Maryland Medical System (UMMS). Here are the details:

UMNursing Research Grant Overview:

  • Award Amount: Up to $15,000 for a one-year project. Each Principal Investigator (PI) will receive an additional $3,000 for professional development.
  • Research Focus: Joint research proposals should investigate nurse-sensitive outcomes, which are defined as patient outcomes that are influenced by nursing intervention.
  • Collaborative Teams: Proposals should be submitted by a team comprising at least one UMSON faculty member and one UMMS nurse.
  • Deadline: The application period will close at the end of business on Dec. 1.
  • Proposal Format: All proposals should adhere to the abbreviated NIH R21 grant format to ensure consistency.
  • Approval Requirements: Successful applicants will be required to obtain Institutional Review Board or Institutional Animal Care approval for their projects before the release of funds.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • UMSON faculty: The UMSON PI must hold a regular faculty appointment of 50% or more at UMSON.
  • UMMS nurses: The UMMS PI should be employed as a professional nurse at a UMMS entity for a minimum of 24 hours per week.
