diverse group of students working on a project collaboratively

Application Deadline: March 22, 2023

The University System of Maryland (USM) Langenberg Legacy Program invites applicants for the inaugural class of Langenberg Legacy Fellowship Program.

The fellowship is a competitive program designed to fund student-led projects dedicated to civic engagement. Proposed projects should aim to combat the existential threats of our time, such as wealth inequality, the climate crisis, and voter suppression, among others, while promoting justice within their university community.

Each USM institution is invited to nominate one Langenberg Legacy Fellow (graduate or undergraduate). By completing an application students will be entered into the selection process of applicants at the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB). The selected student from UMB will compete to become a Langenberg Fellow.

Fellows require a faculty or staff sponsor.

Program Benefits

Through the Langenberg Legacy, students will receive:

  • $1,000 stipend at the beginning of the project;
  • $500 at the end of the project;
  • Invitation to participate in community-building events hosted by USM, including networking meet-and-greets, professional development webinars, and events to recognize fellows and their work.
