As part of the University of Maryland, Baltimore’s (UMB) annual Black History Month celebration, the Office of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion (OEDI) and the Office of Community Engagement are accepting submissions for the first-ever Community Champion of Equity and Justice Award. The purpose of the award is to acknowledge a person or organization advancing equity and justice (E&J) in Baltimore.

The winner will be featured on OEDI’s website and receive a monetary prize of $300, awarded in person at the Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. celebration on Feb. 6, 2024. A pre-recorded interview about the winner's community engagement will be played at the event.

Eligibility Criteria:

  • Must be a resident of Baltimore City, Md. (if nominated as an individual)
  • Must be registered as an organization in Maryland (if nominated as an organization)
  • The organization must not be owned, led, or organized by UMB or agents of UMB acting in an official capacity.
  • Partner must be able to demonstrate currently active community engagement advancing equity and justice with city of Baltimore communities.
