International Compost Awareness Week (ICAW) will take place May 7-13, and this year’s theme is For Healthier Soil, Healthier Food…Compost!. Check out the UMB Office of Sustainability’s Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram pages, where we will highlight ways to get involved. We will share information on:

  • The importance of soil health
  • Small-space composting methods
  • Tips to reduce food waste
  • Local composting resources

Composting is a great way to make a sustainable lifestyle change by reducing food waste, diverting food from landfills, and adding organic materials back into the soil. The benefits of composting are far-reaching! Since 2016, the Compost Research & Education Foundation (CREF) has used ICAW to build public awareness of the benefits of organics recycling and compost. Join us to learn how to improve soil health and build a healthier environment!
