Despite severe needs and higher health risks, people with intellectual disabilities (ID) lack equitable access to health services and die, on average, 20 years earlier than the general population. Their lack of access results in health disparities related to cardiovascular disease, cancer, and diabetes. Through its PATH program, Special Olympics works toward equitable access to quality health services for this often-overlooked population.
