October is near, Edgar Allan Poe lovers are everywhere, and Westminster Hall and Burying Ground is hosting two exhibits at the historic venue, just steps from Poe’s final resting place.

Poe in Comics

Immerse yourself in Poe’s chilling world through the hauntingly beautiful medium of comics. Witness his tales of horror and suspense brought to life with eerie illustrations and haunting dialogue that will make your heart race and your blood run cold. Discover rare and collectible editions of Poe’s work, as well as new interpretations from talented contemporary artists who have put their own unique spin on his classic tales.

This exhibit will explore over a century of comic art and illustration featuring the life and works of Poe. You’ll be amazed at the range and creativity of the comics on display as the dark and mysterious side of Poe’s genius is brought to life. The exhibit includes a live guide and an interactive audio/mobile app.

Poe Death Exhibit

In an interactive art installation, Poe’s body and casket will lie in state in a re-enactment of the dark and somber day when Poe was laid to rest. You can tour the various conspiracies that plague Poe’s legacy, learn how the clothes he wore offer clues to his mysterious death, and pay your respects at a special candlelight vigil for the master of horror and mystery.

NOTE: Death and funeral imagery — including a body in an open casket — may not be suitable for young children. Viewer discretion advised.

The exhibits include:

  • Mobile app/cellphone audio guide
  • Historical and modern-day collection of illustrated and comic-art adaptations of Poe works
  • Appearances of Poe as a character in graphic novels and comic books
  • Poe’s clothing and the mystery of Poe’s death in 1849
  • Comic art auction (Oct. 8)
  • Candlelight Vigil for Poe
  • Scenes from Poe’s “first” funeral

This is a ticketed event; timed entry guarantees admission. For additional information on the exhibit, the International Edgar Allan Poe Festival and Awards, and more, visit www.poeinbaltimore.org/events/.
