Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS

University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) President Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, was named to The Daily Record’s Power 100 list for 2023-24. This is the third consecutive year that Jarrell has been included on the list of 100 men and women who “are shaping our businesses, governments, nonprofits, law firms, and other key institutions … and play an outsized role in the culture, lifestyle, civic conversations, and economic fortunes of Maryland,” according to the newspaper, which focuses on business, law, and government in the state.

The Daily Record noted that Jarrell has carved out an impressive career over the past 25 years at UMB, first serving the University as chair of the School of Medicine’s Department of Surgery before holding a series of executive positions. He served as chief academic and research officer, senior vice president, executive vice president and provost, dean of the Graduate School, and interim president before being named president in September 2020.

For the past three years, Jarrell also has been named to The Daily Record’s Power 30 Higher Education List, which recognizes leaders who excel in advancing their institution’s academic mission.
