Primary Care Retreat: ‘Thriving in the Academics and Practice of Primary Care’

When: May 8, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This event is a collaboration between the University of Maryland School of Medicine’s (UMSOM) Department of Family and Community Medicine and the Johns Hopkins Medicine Primary Care Consortium, representing its School of Medicine, School of Nursing, School of Public Health, and Johns Hopkins Community Physicians.

The event celebrates primary care at the two institutions, around Baltimore, and throughout Maryland. It will focus on provider stories, advocacy, and educational and scholarly progress in the field of primary care.

The event will include:

  • A light lunch
  • Remarks from UMB President Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, and UMSOM Dean Mark Gladwin, MD
  • Keynote address from a leader of the Robert Graham Center
  • Flash talks
  • Dedicated workshops of particular interest to residents, students, and advanced-level practitioners 
  • Advocacy panel that includes Maryland Secretary of Health Laura Hererra, MD, and former Washington, D.C., Health Commissioner LaQuandra Nesbitt, MD, MPH
  • An opportunity to review posters and artwork
  • Time to meet and socialize with colleagues from across the state
