Medical and nursing students are invited to enter the Hope Babette Tang Humanism in Healthcare Essay Contest and and engage in a reflective writing exercise around an experience of humanistic care.

This year’s prompt is a quote from William Osler:

"The practice of medicine is an art, not a trade; a calling, not a business; a calling in which your heart will be exercised equally with your head."

Using the quote above, reflect on an experience in any healthcare setting where you or another healthcare team member worked to put the person at the center of care.

Six winners (three nursing students and three medical students) will receive a monetary award ($1,000 for first place, $500 for second place, and $250 for third place). Their essays will be published in Academic Medicine, the journal of the Association of American medical Colleges, and The Journal of Professional Nursing, of the American Association of Colleges of Nursing.

Deadline: March 13, 11:59 p.m. PT
