Collaboration and Conciliation: Working Together to Provide Professional Services Against a Backdrop of Conflict
June 15 - June 22, 2025
This global independent study explores provision of services in a variety of local, national, and global settings within divided cities. We bring together students from diverse backgrounds from three countries: Germany, Israel and the United States. Students and faculty from these countries, who have seen historical and current conflicts around religion, race, ethnicity, and other intersecting identities, is particularly fruitful in the current context of political upheaval and social injustices.
Students will explore social justice implications of substantive topics of interest. There will be three pre-travel preparation meetings (one in December 2024; two in April/May 2025), with exact dates and times to be decided with the cohort. The main portion of the class will take place in Erfurt, Germany, with students and faculty from the partner institutions attending an in-person seminar with site visits and attendance at the International Social Work Days Conference. Course participants will have the opportunity to present during the student presentation days. During the conference, we will be joined by students from Poland and India. Students will receive a travel fellowship to cover airfare and conference attendance, and there will be opportunities for lodging by local hosts.
Students who wish to participate in Spring Graduation will be permitted to walk at May graduation with an official graduation date of July 2025.
