Juneteenth Jubilee 2024

The University of Maryland School of Social Work, in collaboration with the UMB Community Engagement Center and Intercultural Center, is celebrating Juneteenth with events on June 12-13.

Juneteenth, the oldest nationally celebrated commemoration of the ending of slavery in the United States, dates back to 1865 when Union soldiers led by Major General Gordon Granger landed in Galveston, Texas, with news that the war had ended and the enslaved were now free — 2½ years after the Emancipation Proclamation.

We are commemorating the 159th anniversary of Juneteenth with a two-day Juneteenth Jubilee celebration on June 12 and 13, 2024. Register today <<
