MSW Student Opportunity to Engage in a Research Study on Climate Change and Mental Health among Migrant Populations in Zambia
February 01, 2024Dr. Murphy Michalopoulos, SSW Director of Global Initiatives, has received a grant to conduct a three-year study examining the impact of climate change on mental health among fishing communities in Zambia, Africa. The first stage is to conduct an extensive literature review and scoping exercise to understand concepts and policies related to climate change and mental health in low- and middle-income countries and more specifically related to fisherfolk in Zambia. From this, we will develop a conceptual map of key concepts that will inform a qualitative study. We have funding for one MSW student to lead the literature review and scoping exercise from July 1-December 31 (10-20 hours/week).
We are looking for students with strong writing skills who are able to work independently and have an interest in global work. Interested students should contact Dr. Murphy Michalopoulos (lynn.michalopoulos@ssw.umaryland.edu) and include their resume.
