STRIVE TO 100

Are you 50-plus years old and living with HIV? The STRIVE program is now accepting outside referrals.

STRIVE stands for STrengthening Resilient Individuals to LiVE to 100.

Sign up for a STRIVE evaluation, including one- or two-hour appointments with a geriatric-HIV specialist. She’ll work with you to assess mind, multimorbidity, medications, mobility, and what matters most to you as you grow older.

The STRIVE appointments are aimed for older adults, but many people under 50 also are long-term survivors or lifelong survivors of HIV and can be seen, too.

What exactly will a STRIVE visit include? It depends on what you’re looking for. Here are some topics that could be covered, depending on what matters most to you:

  • Access to food
  • Advanced care planning (living will, durable power of attorney)
  • Balance and mobility
  • Cancer screening
  • Caregiving
  • Community engagement
  • Financial troubles
  • Hearing and vision
  • Medication questions
  • Mental health
  • Memory changes
  • Sexual health
  • Stable housing
  • Sleep quality
  • Strength and frailty
  • Substance use

To participate, call 410-225-8369 and ask to make an appointment with nurse practitioner Judith Lee at the University of Maryland Medical Center-Midtown, 800 Linden Ave., seventh floor, Baltimore, MD 21201.
