Dennis Brave

Dennis Brave will receive an Honorary Doctor of Science degree during 2024 graduation ceremonies the week of May 13. He was nominated by the University of Maryland School of Dentistry.

Dennis Brave earned his Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Maryland School of Dentistry and a certificate in endodontics from the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine. He is a diplomate of the American Board of Endodontics, a member of its College of Diplomates, a member of the Gorgas Odontological Honorary Society, and an Omicron Kappa Upsilon Scholastic Award winner.

While being a co-founder and managing partner of Endodontic Specialists PA in Baltimore, Brave also achieved the title of associate clinical professor at the University of Pennsylvania School of Dental Medicine and held a clinical appointment at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he attended in the Department of Dentistry. Now retired, he was in private practice for nearly 30 years, during which time he was named “Baltimore’s Best Endodontist” by Baltimore magazine multiple times.

Brave has been awarded numerous dental patents, among them the Visi-Frame (the first radiolucent rubber dam frame), and the Integral Gutta Percha Core/Cone Obturation Technique (marketed as the EndoSequence Obturation System). He and his partner introduced bioceramic (BC) technology to the dental profession through the introduction of BC Sealer (Brasseler USA) in 2008. Hydraulic condensation utilizing BC-coated gutta percha and BC sealer is now a leading obturation technique in the field of endodontics.

As a prolific writer of endodontic articles for many dental magazines, Brave and his partner introduced the dental profession to many new technologies that they developed for Brasseler USA. Brave also served on the editorial advisory board for many of those magazines (among them Inside Dentistry, Endodontic Practice US, and Dentistry Today). He was named among Dentistry Today’s Top Leaders in Continuing Education numerous times while also being a featured lecturer at the Greater New York, Chicago Midwinter, Southwest, and Hinman dental meetings.

As a co-founder of Real World Endo, a product development and educational resource company for the endodontic community, Brave served as chairman of the board and is now among its faculty members.

Dentistry Today describes Real World Endo as “an endodontic education company that is committed to the philosophy of a patient-based practice. Its goal is to develop concepts, techniques, and products that are sophisticated enough to be simple. Its mission, simply stated, is this: to develop concepts and techniques that give the greatest majority of clinicians the ability to produce superior endodontic results.”

Real World Endo provides seminars and continuing education courses and boasts a faculty lineup of well-respected endodontists from around the country. As an educational platform offering case-based learning, it has become a dominant presence in the endodontics community.
