The following letter was sent to the UMB community on Jan. 24, 2024 from Susan Buskirk, DM, MS, Chief Accountability Officer, Vice President, and Institutional Official for Human Subjects Research:

The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is committed to a safe and respectful campus environment aligned with our core values set of Respect and Integrity.

UMB is conducting a climate survey of students’ individual experiences with victimization, perpetration, bystander behavior, knowledge of resources, and perceptions of the campus climate. The results of the survey will inform our activities to encourage and support a safe environment.

In 2020, UMB employed the ARC3 Campus Climate Survey on sexual misconduct for a comprehensive look at our University environment. The biennial climate survey on sexual misconduct establishes important benchmarks for the University, demonstrating areas where we have improved our culture and our response to sexual misconduct and where we still need to make progress. All students are encouraged to complete the survey.

The survey can be accessed at this link and will be available through Monday, Feb. 26, 2024.

Please note that the survey includes questions that may be triggering or traumatizing. This survey asks about your knowledge and perceptions related to sexual misconduct, as well as your knowledge of resources available at UMB. It also asks about your personal experience with sexual misconduct. Some of the language used in this survey is explicit and may be uncomfortable. If you choose to participate, please know you can skip any questions you are not comfortable answering or can exit the survey at any time.

Resources and information on supportive services can be found on UMB’s Title IX website.

UMB respects the potential impact and appreciates the time that participating in these efforts requires. The Climate Survey on Sexual Misconduct provides valuable information to promote an environment that is safe and welcoming, compliant with our policies and procedures, and supportive of individuals who have been affected by sexual misconduct.

If you have questions, please contact UMB’s Title IX program personnel at titleixcompliance@umaryland.edu.

Additionally, on Feb. 27, the University will launch the UMB Student Experience Survey. The purpose of that survey is to better understand student experiences within their school, academic program, and broader University in order to implement evidence-based initiatives that create, affirm, and strengthen a diverse, inclusive UMB community grounded in our core values.
