UMSON Procedures for Requesting Academic Accommodation for Religious Observances
October 20, 2024UMSON provides reasonable accommodation for a student to observe faith-based or religious activity when observance affects the student’s ability to satisfy an academic requirement. Students who want to request an accommodation per the updated UMB Policy Concerning the Scheduling of Academic Assignments on Dates of Religious Observance; Campus Space for Faith-Based or Religious Practices should request accommodation at the beginning of each semester by completing the Religious Observance Request Form located in the Course Information section on Blackboard, for each course.
BSN and MSN-E/CNL students whose clinical placement site considerations are due to religious observation must complete and submit the Clinical Religious Observance/Military Obligation Form prior to the ranking process for each course, every semester.
A faith and religious practice space is available in the Health Sciences and Human Services Library, Room 302; maximum occupancy is 12 individuals. Room use guidelines as well as additional spaces on or near UMB can be found under spiritual wellness: Dimensions of Wellness - URecFit and Wellness.
For more information, UMSON's point of contact is the Office of the Academic Deans.
Students wishing to file a grievance with the implementation of religious accommodations should report through the UMB Hotline.
