Derrick Whiting

Derrick Whiting, a Master of Social Work candidate at the University of Maryland School of Social Work (UMSSW), has been named a semifinalist for the 2024 Baltimore Homecoming Hero Award. This prestigious award recognizes community and nonprofit leaders, activists, artists, and innovators who have made significant contributions to Baltimore.

Whiting also was one of 13 community leaders selected by The Baltimore Banner for its 2024 class of Emerging Leaders, which recognizes the next generation of community leaders and the impact they are making in Baltimore and throughout Maryland.

Whiting’s work with the Flowers Whiting Initiative, which focuses on supporting returning citizens and families impacted by the criminal justice system, has earned him this recognition.

The School of Social Work community is encouraged to support Whiting by voting for him to become a finalist. Your vote can help highlight the impactful work being done by the UMSSW students and faculty.
