Call for Artists: ‘Earth’s Echo: Voices of Environmental Justice’ Exhibition
January 29, 2025The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Council for the Arts & Culture invites artists among the University community to submit their artwork for an upcoming exhibition addressing community impact and environmental justice at the Universities at Shady Grove (USG) in Rockville, Md.
The “Earth’s Echo: Voices of Environmental Justice” exhibition, which will be hosted in March and April at the Shannon and Priddy Library at USG, seeks to amplify the voices of those affected by environmental harm and highlight the resilience, struggles, and creativity of impacted communities.
The exhibition will explore the intersection of environmental challenges and social inequities, focusing on the human stories behind environmental harm and resilience.
USG is looking for artwork that reflects:
* The lived experiences of communities impacted by environmental harm.
* The cultural, social, or emotional consequences of environmental injustices.
* Acts of resistance, resilience, or advocacy in the face of these challenges.
Eligibility
* Open to all artists 18 years and older living in the Washington, D.C.-Maryland-Virginia area. Acceptable mediums include paintings, sculptures, and photography.
* Artwork must be created within the last five years and align with the exhibition’s theme.
* Submissions from underrepresented voices, especially those from impacted communities, are strongly encouraged.
Submission Guidelines
* Up to three artworks may be submitted.
* Provide high-resolution images (JPEG, PNG) with titles, dimensions, mediums, and a brief description of how each piece connects to the theme.
* Include an artist statement (300 words maximum) describing your perspective on environmental justice and artist’s résumé.
* For the submission of sculptures, provide front, back, and side images
* Artwork should not exceed 58 inches in height, width, or depth. All pieces should be framed, wired, and ready to hang.
* Submit your entry via the entry form by March 9 at 5 p.m. Only accepted artists will be notified.
No entry fee is required.
