children reading a book

Reads for Peds is a heartfelt initiative with the aim of providing educational gifts to children who find themselves away from home and in the hospital during the winter holiday season. This event was conceived, initiated, and is operated by medical students, supported by the Pediatrics Department at the University of Maryland Medical Center.

In its inaugural year, the drive collected more than 500 new books for the children at the University of Maryland Children's Hospital during the holiday season. The dedicated team of medical students and pediatrics faculty delivered these wrapped books and spent time reading to the children during the delivery. Last year, the initiative received approximately 3,000 book donations, allowing distribution of books to over five hospitals and satellite facilities across Maryland that care for sick children. This year, the goal is to reach an even more impressive 3,500 books!

To achieve this ambitious goal, Reads for Peds is reaching out to the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) community for support. It's easy to make a difference — visit the website where you can order books starting at just $3.50. The books will be conveniently delivered to Reads for Peds, so you don't need to worry about drop-off or wrapping.

Reads for Peds deeply appreciates the support it has received from the UMB community in the past. Your contributions and involvement make a significant impact in brightening the holiday season for these young patients.
