Polar Bear Plunge Logo

The University of Maryland School of Nursing is proud to start a 2026 Polar Bear Plunge team in support of Special Olympics Maryland along with the Maryland State Police.

The UMSON Family & Friends Team is gearing up for the 30th Annual Polar Bear Plunge! We’d love for you to EXPERIENCE INCLUSION and jump in! By joining the team, you’re not just taking a quick dip; you’re standing behind programs that promote inclusion, health, and opportunity for more than 19,000 athletes across the state.

Whether you’re ready to plunge into the bay or prefer to stay dry and cheer from the beach, you’ll be freezin’ for a reason!  Bring (or share with) colleagues, friends, and family, and help us show what it looks like when UMSON shows up for inclusive health and for our community.

Date: Saturday, Jan. 31, 2026

Time: 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. *Specific team plunge time TBD

Location: Sandy Point State Park | Annapolis, MD

*The Special Olympics Maryland Polar Bear Plunge is a fundraising event in which individuals pledge or raise $100.00 or more for the chance to plunge into the Chesapeake Bay in support of more than 19,000 athletes and Unified teammates who train and compete year-round free of charge.
