On Sept. 18, the University of Maryland Francis King Carey School of Law and University of Baltimore School of Law will host a screening of the documentary "The Strike." This film tells the story of a generation of men in California who endured decades of solitary confinement and, against all odds, initiated the largest hunger strike in U.S. history.

Following the screening, there will be a post-film discussion with Chaz Arnett, JD, professor of law at Maryland Carey Law, and Zina Makar, JD, assistant professor of law at the University of Baltimore School of Law. Joining them will be Jack Morris, who is featured in the documentary. Morris served 40 years in prison, spending more than 35 of those years in solitary confinement, including time at Pelican Bay State Prison, where he participated in the hunger strikes of 2011 and 2013. He was released in September 2017 and has since been dedicated to supporting the community, particularly through his work with re-entry populations.
