National Preparedness Month
September 10, 2025September is National Preparedness Month! This national campaign helps prepare our community for emergencies before they happen.
The UMB Office of Emergency Management (OEM) provides training opportunities and resources year-round to help the UMB community prevent against, prepare for, respond to, and recover from emergencies. Here's how you can celebrate this month and help create a more resilient UMB!
- Sign up for Preparedness Pro training. Learn about emergency preparedness, active assailant preparedness, CPR/AED, Naloxone, Stop the Bleed, and Fire Extinguishers — then earn a digital credential!
- Update your information in UMB Alerts. It only takes a minute to receive life-saving information and alerts. These aren't spam — we will only contact you with critical updates and changes to campus operations.
- Make a COOP Plan. Continuity of operations (COOP) is the readiness to continue performing the most important and time-sensitive work, even during an emergency interruption. Our team can help you create a plan today!
- Learn about your building. UMB has Occupant Emergency Plans and Safety Plans for every building, outdoor space, and large indoor space on campus. Learn about your building's specific emergency resources and procedures.
- Make safety a priority at your next event. OEM's event planning considerations will help keep your event's attendees safe!
