Objectives:

  1. Examine the current and future use of the EHR to study patients who receive their care at Children’s National.
  2. Discuss current practices for obtaining permissions that permit scientists to use the EHR to conduct studies.
  3. Compare the ethical tensions that could arise between respecting an individual’s autonomy and privacy and the benefits of advancing science.
