Social Work Interprofessional Palliative Medicine Fellowship Opportunity:

The section of Palliative Medicine at Medstar Washington Hospital Center located in Washington, DC is recruiting for a one-year, post-graduate social work fellowship in hospice and palliative medicine with a concentration in ethics.  The interprofessional fellowship consisting of social work, physician and advanced practice clinician fellows and begins July 2025, concluding at the end of June 2025.  Fellowship is an intensive clinical experience designed to train future clinicians and leaders in the field, offering learners to a variety of field-related placements and educational activities.  Social Work fellows are exposed diverse clinical settings and experiences including inpatient palliative care consult service teams at Medstar Washington Hospital Center and Georgetown University Hospital, outpatient palliative care clinic, Oncology, Ethics, Pediatrics rotations as well as both inpatient and outpatient hospice rotations.  Academic learning includes weekly didactic seminar and case conference discussions, as well as journal clubs, in-depth case review, mentored capstone and quality improvement projects and other academic learning opportunities. 

We offer a unique opportunity for training and professional development within a large, interdisciplinary team dedicated to the field of palliative medicine. In addition to core training in palliative care, the social work fellow will specialize in ethics through rotations with ethics consultation services, participation in committee meetings, and support for academic projects. By the end of the academic year, fellows will have gained valuable experience in reviewing and analyzing ethics literature, as well as direct involvement in case consultations. This experience will prepare them to further their learning and actively contribute to ethics committee work post-fellowship. Additionally, the rotations provide ample exposure to sit for the HEC-C exam, should the fellow wish to pursue certification.

This is a paid position with full benefits and clinical supervision.  The range for fellow compensation begins at ~ $66+K.  We are accepting applications now through March 14, 2025.   Candidates for fellowship must have completed their MSW degree at an accredited school of Social Work by May 2025 and if not licensed prior to date of hire, must be eligible for LGSW licensure in Washington DC at the time of hire.
