April 24: Register for the 2025 Climate Health Symposium
March 17, 2025In recognition of Earth Month 2025, the University of Maryland School of Medicine (UMSOM) Center for Vaccine Development and Global Health (CVD) and the University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) Office of Sustainability will co-host a panel discussion exploring the far-reaching consequences of climate change on public health, using both a global lens and looking specifically at challenges Maryland faces. The event will feature opening remarks by Bruce E. Jarrell, MD, FACS, president, UMB; Mark T. Gladwin, MD, dean and the John Z. and Akiko K. Bowers Distinguished Professor, UMSOM, and vice president for medical affairs, UMB; and Miriam K. Laufer, MD, MPH, interim director, CVD.
Speakers Include:
- Tamer Rabie, MD, global program lead for climate and health, The World Bank
- Kris Karnauskas, PhD, fellow, Cooperative Institute for Research in Environmental Sciences, and associate professor, Department of Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences, University of Colorado Boulder
- Mustafa Ahmad, MA, policy analyst, Climate Change Program, Maryland Department of the Environment
The event takes place April 24 at the SMC Campus Center (621 W. Lombard St.) from 12:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.
