On March 28, Russell Weiner, PhD, FAAPS, a seasoned biopharmaceutical leader and president of the American Association of Pharmaceutical Scientists (AAPS), visited the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy (UMSOP) to engage with PhD students and faculty. As vice president and head of translational sciences at Alexion Pharmaceuticals, Weiner shared insights from his extensive industry experience. His lecture emphasized the importance of preanalytics in research, particularly in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where challenges like unreliable infrastructure and logistical hurdles can hinder progress.

Beyond his lecture, Weiner led small group workshops focused on career development, offering practical guidance on industry navigation and communication skills. Students appreciated the rare opportunity to interact directly with a global expert, gaining insights into both technical and professional aspects of the field.
