Supporting the Academic Nursing Community in Los Angeles
January 17, 2025As shared by the American Association of Colleges of Nursing:
As the wildfires continue to burn in the Los Angeles area, AACN applauds the tireless efforts of nurses and other first responders who have been called to provide care to those directly impacted by this tragedy. We also recognize the challenges faced by area nursing schools as they work to support faculty, students, and staff who have lost their homes and no longer feel safe in their local communities.
AACN has heard from many faculty, deans, and students who are interested in helping to respond to the wildfires and address the threats to public health. Below is a list of organizations offering opportunities to contribute to relief efforts:
American Red Cross
California Community Foundation
World Central Kitchen
Salvation Army
California Fire Foundation
Emergency Network Los Angeles
For those seeking further ways to support, we recommend visiting Charity Navigator - Palisades Fire Relief 2025. This site provides vetted and rated organizations to ensure your contributions make the greatest impact.
In addition, several Los Angeles area nursing schools have established relief funds for those wishing to support students and faculty impacted by the fires. We encourage you to contact schools directly for more details. (Use AACN’s membership directory to locate schools in California.)
AACN will continue to monitor the wildfires' impact on schools of nursing. We also encourage our members to share additional opportunities to support relief efforts via our online discussion community AACN Connect.
