What’s Next for Pharmacists: A Bitter Pill with a Spoonful of Sugar

Presented by Chan Harjivan, PharmD ’02, MPH, MBA

With more than 25 years of experience spanning public health, government, and the biopharmaceutical industry, Chan Harjivan, PharmD ’02, MPH, MBA, has worked with the leadership of nearly every major pharmaceutical company, U.S. health agency, and global health organization to accelerate the development and delivery of lifesaving vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics.

He previously served in the White House as a special assistant, reporting directly to the president. In this role, he oversaw the development and implementation of vaccines, therapeutics, diagnostics, R&D, supply chain, and response plans to strengthen the nation’s readiness for biological threats

In 2021, he co-founded SaponiQx, a next-generation vaccine adjuvant company valued at $250 million on exit. It's key product, STIMULON QS-21, is a potent immunostimulant, promoting both humoral and cellular immunity, and is a component of several Food and Drug Administration-approved adjuvant systems, including GSK's Shingrix.

Harjivan was a key architect of Operation Warp Speed, the historic federal initiative that launched in 2020 to accelerate the development, manufacturing, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines and therapeutics through unprecedented public-private collaboration and investment. It saved $1 trillion and 3 million lives.

Harjivan was previously a managing director and partner at Boston Consulting Group, where he founded and led the Public Sector Health Practice that advises governments and public-sector organizations on strategy, health care, digital transformation, technology, and organizational performance, helping leaders improve services, strengthen capabilities, and deliver measurable impact at scale. Prior to that, he was senior partner at PwC, where he founded and led the Global Health Practice.

Boxed lunches will be available post-lecture.
