The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) is excited to announce the upcoming launch of Ellucian Experience, a new, modern way to access key student information and services.

What is Experience?

Experience is the new face of Self-Service Banner, commonly known as SURFS. Designed for students, instructors, and advisors, it brings together key university resources — such as class registration, financial aid, and several support services — along with tools for advising and grading, all in one easy-to-use platform.

This intuitive, dynamic, card-based platform will serve as your entry point for accessing university resources like Blackboard, course registration, Degree Works, and more. Instead of navigating through multiple websites and bookmarked pages, Experience will bring these resources together in one central location.

What does this mean for our University?

For students, the existing functionality you are familiar with — registering for courses, changing your address, checking grades, reviewing financial aid, and more — will mostly remain the same, but it will now be presented as part of a more easily accessible dashboard.

The same is true for instructors and advisors who use SURFS for grading and advising purposes. While the appearance and navigation may be updated, the core functionality will remain familiar.

Overall, Experience will provide a simpler, more intuitive interface for completing everyday tasks and accessing key academic systems. It will also provide access to a personalized homepage where you can quickly access the cards most relevant to you.

What’s more, Experience is built on a mobile-friendly, future-ready platform designed to work seamlessly across all your devices while continuing to evolve through ongoing enhancements and expanded functionality over time.

How do I access Experience?

Please stay tuned for announcements on June 15 that will include login instructions. We will also be updating many of the primary web links throughout UMB’s website where users currently access SURFS. Even if you miss subsequent announcements, you should still be redirected to the new Experience platform beginning June 15.

In the meantime, you can visit our Ellucian Experience webpage to view a brief demonstration of what Experience has to offer.
