At the University of Maryland School of Nursing (UMSON)'s monthly research center, the statistical team in the Office of Research and Scholarship will discuss the role of statisticians in translating clinical knowledge and research objectives into the methodological components required to operationalize a research study.

This presentation highlights the statistician's role beyond analysis, including strengthening study design, defining and operationalizing variables, planning data structure, and contributing to manuscript development. It also reviews what to expect during the planning stage of a research proposal, how investigators can prepare for more effective collaboration with statisticians, and the types of support that can be expected once a study is funded.
