Jon Mark Hirshon

University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) faculty member and Institutional Review Board Chair Jon Mark Hirshon, MD, MPH, PhD, professor of Emergency Medicine and Epidemiology & Public Health at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, will be among the featured speakers at "The Belmont Report at Belmont: Where Modern Human Research Protections Were Shaped," an event hosted by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office for Human Research Protections and Howard County, Md.

The program takes place Sunday, July 12, from 10 a.m. to noon at the historic Belmont Manor & Historic Park in Elkridge, Md. — the venue where the Belmont Report was developed in the 1970s. The gathering honors two milestones: America's 250th anniversary and the anniversary of the signing of the National Research Act on July 12, 1974.

The event will conclude with a facilitated panel discussion bringing together human research protections experts, researchers, and community voices, including our own Dr. Hirshon. It is free and open to the public.

We're proud to see UMB's leadership in human research protections represented on this national stage. Please join us in supporting Dr. Hirshon and celebrating this important moment in the history of research ethics.

Register for the event.
