October is Biosafety and Biosecurity Month, an annual observance led by ABSA International to promote awareness of the practices and programs that protect people, research, and the environment. ABSA International encourages institutions around the world to use this month to highlight training, stewardship, engagement, and responsible research practices.

This year, UMB Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) is celebrating with the theme "Biosafety Doesn't Have to Be Scary." While biosafety requirements, risk assessments, and regulations can sometimes seem intimidating, researchers do not have to navigate them alone. The EHS Biosafety Team is here to help.

Whether you are starting a new project, working with biological materials for the first time, completing an IBC protocol, or simply have a question about safe laboratory practices, the Biosafety Team is available to provide guidance, training, and support.

Throughout October, EHS will share biosafety resources, safety tips, and fun activities designed to increase awareness and highlight services available to UMB's research community.
